1 year checkup

Well, we're on our 4th ear infection! Tyler's been having problems with this since the end of January and lately he can't seem to get rid of the fluid in his ears. It's not always infected (although it was on Thursday) but it's been there pretty much since mid-March (which is not very common). So we've got a follow up appointment in two weeks and then will decide whether to go to an ENT. I'm really hoping they will be better then and we can get thru the summer with no infections and eventually grow out of them.

On top of that, he's FINALLY getting one of his top teeth. His bottom two didn't seem to bother him too too much, but this one's giving him more pains. Well, it could be that on top of the ear infections too...



He says 'dada' all the time. He loves his Daddy so much! We'll be inside and he'll see Rodney outside thru the blinds and walk (and crawl) over there and bounce up and down because he wants to go outside! He loves watching his Daddy mow the lawn too. He'll also do motorboat when he's watching him mow. He says 'mama' sometimes, but not quite as much as 'dada'. Rodney is a wonderful father to him - I am so blessed!

So as for walking, he's taking steps! He started taking a few around April 20th (about 11 months). He's now up to about 11 or 12 at a time. He loves taking your hand and leading you around the house. When he's holding your hand, he can actually walk pretty fast - once he's got the balancing down, he's going to be off!

We're pretty close to being off 'baby food' and purely table food. Sometimes if we end up eating late and don't have anything ready for Tyler we end up doing jar food, but we're trying to plan better these days so that doesn't happen.

Back to his 1 year check - here are his stats:

Height - 29 3/4 inches (50th percentile)
Weight - 21 lbs 15 oz (between 50th and 75th percentile)

Five month birthday

This past month has been full of new and exciting moments. Tyler began laughing right around 4 months. We all had our first hurricane experience with Ike on September 13. Tyler did really well - I don't even know that he knew we had a hurricane. Aside from the fact that he slept in his pack and play in our bedroom, things weren't really too different for him. He definitely enjoyed the fact that Rodney got to stay home with him more since his office was closed for a few days.

Tyler surprised us the day after the hurricane when he rolled over from back to tummy for the first time! Rodney caught it out of the corner of his eye and sure enough he did it again (and again and again)!! Now it's hard to keep him on his back - he almost immediately rolls to his tummy. He's desperately trying to crawl, but is quickly frustrated by his own physical limitations. He can scoot a little and can rotate his body around to where he's facing a different direction than when we laid him down. He has learned how to pull his knees up under him, but does not yet have the strength to get that big belly up off the floor. Speaking of big belly, at his 4 month check up, he weighed 16 lbs 7 oz (90th percentile) and was 25 1/2 inches long (75th percentile). Depending on the brand, some 6-9 month outfits are a little snug!!

Tyler was baptized on September 21. He fussed a little at the beginning of the ceremony, but did okay for the majority of it. When Father Jack poured the water on his head, he wrinkled his eyebrows and had a look that said "What in the world is going on?". We enjoyed visiting with our families after the ceremony.

I went back to work on September 23 so Tyler had his first week at daycare. We had a little bit of a rough start (I guess as expected), but things seem to be getting better. The ladies call him "The Gerber Baby". He caught a cold that Thursday, so we've been fighting a stuffy nose and a cough for about 10 days. It seems to be on its way out though... Work for me has been good - though I miss him all day and wonder what he's doing, it's nice to have some time for myself and to interact with other adults.

Tyler found his feet about a week ago. He loves to grab them and try to pull them to his mouth. When he has socks on, he'll pull it off his foot and chew on his sock! He's still drooling tons, but no teeth have popped up.

His sleep schedule is wonderful! He generally goes to bed around 8:30 and will sleep until we wake him up (usually around 6:00 on days that I work).

We are so blessed to have such a wonderful & healthy baby!

Four month birthday

Tyler turned four months this past Sunday. We got him a jumperoo for his birthday, but haven't yet tried it out. He loves standing up and pushing against things with his feet, so we are anxious to see him in his new toy.

Last Friday he laughed for the first time. Early last week, Rodney went offshore for work so I headed to my parents' house in East Bernard for a few nights. My mom and I were in my room with Tyler and we heard a little laugh! Well, the next day, we heard lots more laughing! I've posted a video so you can hear his little giggle. He continues to find ways to make my heart melt.

He is smiling more and more every day. He's a very energetic little guy, constantly kicking and moving his arms around. His sleeping schedule is getting a little better. The past two nights, Tyler slept thru the entire night! He's also getting into a schedule of taking a morning nap and afternoon nap.

I've got two more weeks before going back to work. While I am looking forward to interaction with adults, I am not looking forward to leaving him with people we don't know. However, we know someone whose kids go to the daycare Tyler is enrolled in and they highly recommended it. So, hopefully all goes well.... Until then, I'm going to enjoy my time with him.

This past Wednesday, Tyler reached a new milestone. He is now able to roll from front to back. I had set him on his tummy and then went to the next room to grab the camera. When I came back, he was on his back! I briefly questioned myself as to whether I had indeed put him on his tummy to begin with. I put him back on his tummy and sure enough, he did it again! The first time he only rolled to his right side, and then today he rolled to his left side.
